CADEAUX 1 (Department of Visual Arts, University of Bologna, Bologna, July 9, 2003) CADEAUX 2 (Small Treasures, Galleria Biagiotti , Florence, Novembre 19, 2004) The “cadeaux” project is about a new idea for a gift created with recycled materials or simple elements, meant as a present for artists to be delivered on a special occasion, such as an art exhibition opening. The object as a result of design through making is the starting point for this project aimed at the creation of unique items, shaped in view of their receivers. It is an answer to the logic of mass-made products, industrial shabbiness, global dreariness…; a reflection on the idea of Gift, away from the confinement of exchange economy and back to the experience of free exchange, symbolic of a link or an emotion… This kind of exchange is based on inexpensive, simple, non-committal gifts that do not require to be reciprocated. Besides, they represent a possibility to take part actively in an event without being a protagonist, but just visiting it through the cadeaux.
