HECTIC FEAST - food concept for Pitti Living, Spazio Ex Ansaldo, Zona Tortona, Milan, April 2005

At the Milanese event held during Pitti Living in the former factory building Spazio Ex Ansaldo in the Tortona area, the Florentine group Arabeschi di Latte presented a model of hurban catering entitled Hectic Feast. The name conjures up images very similar to a busy market, full of ferment, fibrillation and energy. This was the context in which the Arabeschi di Latte project took place, using the potential of the mezzanine area in the Clou Nine space to create refreshment points. Typical market stalls were turned into trolleys for the occasion, with variable settings for specific functions. Each trolley was like a miniature kiosk with different accessories – food trays, display cabinets and shelves containing disposable food containers. The idea was to be able to choose from different menus and take-away lunch boxes in order to be able to create a situation of continuous movement, frenzy and energy. This was then magnified by extemporaneous micro-events through the creation of small rituals that could be extended to the area outside the hall as and when desired. The aim was to create tiny moments for meeting an conviviality among participants – shared barbecues,or themed cocktails. Fresh food, simple bvut strong tasting like the food of slightly elite, specialist markets, and English and Nordic agricultural fairs. Family run vegetables gardens, a little old-fashioned, arouse a gentle nostalgie for the forgotten tastes and combimation of country life. Foods presented with meticulous care, with the emphasis of their purity and genuine character, give a comfortable and extremely pleasant feeling, like beeing immersed in a “hortus conclusus”, an enclosed garden.
